Anticipating that we will overcome the pandemic crisis we are in and that the tourism industry will be reorganized, President of FIJET World Tijani Haddad said; “Today, traveling is no longer a luxury reserved for the wealthy persons and the elite. Tourism is even part of human rights. This is why tourism will rebound.” 

Many countries of the world had a difficult year regarding their economy due to Covid-19. How do you evaluate the year we left behind globally in terms of tourism?

Covid-19 pandemic has been a real disaster for the world economy, but tourism sector has been the most affected sector. Its collapse has been brutal and almost total. The consequences has been harder and will last longer. They are economic, social and even politic. For several countries in the world, tourism is a drawing force for many other sectors. The Covid-19 pandemic has terrorized the whole world, in its own way, and more particularly struck down the tourism sector and all its components: hotels, travel agencies, air transport, car rental, crafts, air transport, restaurants, marinas. The damage did not stop there, to encompass farmers, anglers, doctors, clinics, pharmacists, and to sum up, all the cogs of the national economy.

Andrew Agius Muscat: Technology will be the game changer

Explaining what needs to be done to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic that badly affected the tourism industry, Secretary General of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation (MTF), Andrew Agius Muscat said; “The tourism, hospitality and travel sectors need to rethink their operations and create new experiences by using technology.” 

Many countries of the world had a difficult year regarding their economy due to Covid-19. Especially, Mediterranean countries suffered greatly in this process. How do you evaluate the year we have left behind?

Year 2020 was a nightmare for all those who work or operate a business in the tourism, hospitality and travel sectors across the world. The unimaginable happened. As year over year, tourism was growing across the world and traveling was becoming more accessible to more people, the key issues seemed to revolve around the challenges caused by over-tourism.
